Restoring my Peugeot PX-10
I bought mine back in 1972 for $150. It was advertised in the Tucson classified ads (in the newspaper).
The fellow who sold it to me told me he had toured with it in Europe and even Egypt.
At the time it was one of the best 10 speed bikes a person could buy.
I think that another Raleigh model was a close contender.
A friend had a really nice ten speed (perhaps the Raleigh), let me ride it, and I was ruined.
Up to then I was riding some junker, perhaps even a 3 speed of some sort.
The game is to put this poor neglected bike back into service. It originally had Mavic brakes, which I always
hated. They had too many degrees of freedom and were almost impossible to get adusted right. You loosened some
bolt and suddenly everything was free to move -- and did! I replaced these with Campagnolo caliper brakes.
The bike still has the original Stronglight crank and I have one wheel with original Normandy hub.
I am considering replacing parts from another bike which has Shimano 600 and Ultegra components.
At some point I installed shifters at the handlebar ends, but I might go back to the original friction
shifters on the fork tube -- but all of this is unsure. I suspect it will be easier to get chainrings
for the Shimano 600 crank than for the Stronglight -- but I should consult experts at my bike shop.
