Pixel 6 -- how to update Android

The way Google handles this is stupid and infuriating. My phone will be sitting on the charger for hours, then when I pick it up to use it, it brings up a big notification that an Android update is 15 days out of date.

What? Why didn't you tell me 15 days ago? Why didn't you just do the update while the phone was sitting there. Now that I am done doing what I needed to do with the phone, how do I get it to do this urgent update.

How to do it

Go to Settings. Then System --> Software update.

I will tell you that there is an update pending. Touch this and tell it, "yes, do it now" or whatever it asks you. It announces that there is 40M of stuff involved (I don't know if it is already downloaded and just waiting to be installed, but I think so), then the phone will reboot and be busy for a while as the update gets installed.
